Every March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting and celebrating women in society and their accomplishments, both past and present.
The theme for Women’s History Month for 2022 is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” We sat down with a few of our female leaders at AmeriHealth New Jersey to talk about what the month means to them as women in health care.
Meet Veronica Diaz, manager, sales enablement at AmeriHealth New Jersey. Veronica is responsible for overseeing the sales strategy and product development for all of AmeriHealth New Jersey’s sales segments.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
To me, Women’s History Month means celebrating all of the wonderful achievements made by women. Those we look up to, those closest to us, and those we’ve learned about who paved the way for us. It’s also a chance to self-reflect on myself.
As the pandemic continues, can you talk about the important of taking care of your mental health?
It’s so important to refill your own pitcher! Prioritizing self-care is essential now more than ever. A lot of us have had a challenging two years juggling multiple tasks with working from home, school and day care closures, and a ton of newfound responsibilities. My three pieces of advice:
- Make a list.
Make a daily list of things you MUST accomplish for the day – keep it short and realistic. - Protect your calendar.
It’s easy to fall into back-to-back meetings, which makes it impossible to get anything done. Little pockets of time away from your computer do in fact help productivity. - Take time for yourself.
Find small things that keep you happy, energized, and engaged. For me, I make sure to have one hour to myself every a.m. before everyone wakes up!
Who inspired you to go after a career in health care?
Health care can be a difficult journey to navigate. As the daughter of immigrants who went without insurance for a good portion of their time in the U.S., I hoped to be a part of making this experience easier for other families.
Could you share one piece of advice for women who might want to pursue a career in health care?
If you like to be kept on your toes, come join us! It’s an interesting industry as it continues to evolve. Have an open mind, and don’t be scared to challenge the status quo – we have some catching up to do to be on par with other industries in terms of transparency, speed, and simplicity.
And lastly, what would you tell the younger version of yourself?
Gratitude. Change your mindset by focusing on the good you have, not the things you lack.
Veronica Diaz is manager of sales enablement for AmeriHealth New Jersey. She began her career with AmeriHealth New Jersey as a sales account executive in 2011. Soon after she assumed the position of senior health care reform specialist. Before assuming her current position, Veronica was manager of consumer markets, responsible for facilitating the creation and execution of consumer product development strategy.
Veronica holds a B.A. in economics and an M.S. in health care management from Rutgers University. She was named one of NJBIZ’s Forty Under 40 in 2018.
